Essentially a six-axle version of the four-axle Alco RS2, the RSC-2 spread the locomotive’s weight more evenly across the lighter rail found on branch and secondary lines. First built in 1946, the 1,500 hp RSC-2 handled freight and passenger trains and even saw yard switching duty from the 1950s into the 1970s.
