Atlas N Scale – 40004743 – EMD GP40-2 Locomotive with Dynamic Brakes – Master Line Gold Series – DC/DCC & ESU LokSound V5 – CSX Cab #6487.
The EMD GP30 is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between July 1961 and November 1963. The GP30’s were designed to compete with GE’s U25B. EMD wanted the new body to be modern and updated, so the GM Automotive Styling Center created the GP30’s unique “hump” and cab roof profile.
This item is our HO Scale Brass Steam Locomotive Replacement Insulation Kit for Driving Wheels. It is brand new, unopened, unused in original packaging. This is intended for the craftsman who needs to put new insulation into one or more drivers on a brass model steam locomotive. There are two (2) sheets included each measuring 3 inches x 5 inches in size and .010 inches thick. This is the same material that we use professionally to re-insulate shorted brass steam locomotive drivers. There is enough material included in each kit to do between 10 and 15 models. In case you’re not aware of it, brass steam locomotive models have on the fireman’s side of the engine, a thin strip of dielectric paper mounted in between the tire (the part of the driving wheel with the flange) and the driver center (the brass or cast metal portion of the driver that is pressed onto the axle). When drivers are shorted the model won’t run. While any brass steam locomotive model could have a shorted driver because of failed insulation, in particular, many of the brass models made by Dong Jin, KOBRA, and ROK-AM used an inappropriately thin white plastic insulation instead of the proper electrical paper. To make matters worse, the plastic is not chemically resistant. When those kind of drivers are exposed to chemical cleaning (as when prepping a model for paint) any exposure to paint solvents will melt the plastic insulation, and can actually cause the tires to fall off of the drivers. Any shorted driver must have the insulation replaced to make the model operational again. In practice, if the tire hasn’t already fallen off the driver center, then the user will need to remove the tire from the driver center; then measure the existing insulation; then cut the driver insulating paper into thin strips that fit the wheel you’re repairing; then place the new strip in between the driver tire and driver center; then press the parts back together again making certain the tire is properly gauged after reassembly. It is one of the trickier things to repair on a brass steam locomotive model but it’s impossible to accomplish without this insulating paper. This is the same insulation pack that we sell at the model train shows we attend and due to popular demand at the shows we’ve made it available for sale on eBay too. We sell and ship only to locations within the U.S.A. Shipping is $7.95 PER ORDER so if you buy multiple packages of our insulating paper then the COMBINED SHIPPING portion of your order stays at $7.95 max. Add the items to your cart, then check out.
