Broadway Limited – Paragon 4 DCC – Sound Stock number: 8024 – N Scale – Brand new store stock – Original boxPENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD T1 Duplex steam locomotive with DCC and Paragon 3 soundEngine number: 5549The prototype for this N Scale Pennsylvania Railroad Class T1 4-4-4-4 from Broadway Limited may look and sound like an articulated steam locomotive, but it really was a rigid frame locomotive with a second pair of cylinders dividing the drivers, making it a duplex drive locomotive. The design was a successful one and after a trial of two locomotives, the PRR ordered 50 more. This model represents the production locomotives, as they appeared in service. This duplex design with lighter machinery, shorter cylinder stroke, less wear and tear due to small moving parts and the use of poppet valves allowed the T1’s to travel at extremely fast speeds. Unfortunately they were also prone to wheel slip and maintenance issues that the Pennsy struggled to work through – especially the fact that the poppet valves could not withstand sustained operation at 100 mph speeds. These problems likely could have been resolved with some modest design changes, but the PRR, and steam in general, ran out of time. In 1948, the PRR dieselized all of its first-class prime trains and the T1s were downgraded to haul secondary trains. Some were withdrawn from service in 1949, and all were retired by 1952. This detailed T1 4-4-4-4 model features full Paragon4 sound and DCC for realistic sound and motor control. The Paragon4 sound system works with all Broadway Limited Rolling Thunder(TM) advanced sound systems. Other features of this locomotive include a heavy die cast chassis, smooth-running flywheel-equipped drive, directional lighting and magnetic knuckle couplers. It can be operated on all DCC systems as well as on standard DC railroads (with limited sound functionality). It has wheels profiled to operate on Code 55 and larger rail and curves of 9-3/4″ radius and larger are recommended.WE ARE AN AUTHORIZED BROADWAY LIMITED DEALER——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–Shipping and handling will be to your location in the United States. With this design, the cylinders could be smaller and the weight of side rods and main rods could be reduced. Built with striking streamlining designed by Raymond Loewy, the T1 engines were large, powerful, and fast!

Many more were later used in commuter service before being retired. The Rapido Trains EMD E8 features a body shell patterned after a 3D scan of the prototype to ensure the accuracy of the nose contour.
