This item is an Athearn Ready to Roll GP40X. It is DCC no sound. Look closely at the enlarged and enhanced photos and watch the video. They are a large part of the description. I have owned this unit for a few years and lost the box when I left the engine and box over at a model railroad club of which I am a member. It has been in storage for some time and the drive lubrication dried out. I had to reconditioned it to get it back in shape. I added a Digitrax DH123 decoder in order to operate it at the model railroad club. This has a DCC READY board and I plugged it into the 9 pin plug. This unit has a hex drive for quiet operation.
