The RSC-2 took the four-axle RS-2 design and added a pair of idler axles on A1A trucks, spreading the locomotive's weight to work the lighter rail of branch and secondary lines. Built beginning in 1946, these 1,500 hp Alco units pulled freight and passenger trains and handled yard switching well into the 1970s.
