The ED79 0 series a dedicated locomotive for the Seikan Tunnel features a compact body inheriting the tradition of the ED75. It recreates the current active locomotive. Since 2010 the standard pantographs on the two ends (the Hakodate-facing side) have been replaced with single-arm pantographs.
